Join us in supporting real change. Let’s support good in the world and make a difference. With your help we can ensure families understand the importance of reading aloud.

Reach Out and Read Iowa uses the power of the relationship between pediatricians and families to promote language, literacy and loving interactions for children in under-resourced communities.

We are Amber Gustafson and Kelsey Casper and we hope you can support our fundraiser.

From Kelsey: I come from a family of readers. Aunts, uncles, grandparents, mom, dad – we all love to read! So, as a kid, reading together was a part of my daily routine. It was a time to connect and a time to learn. I remember summer vacations spent sitting with my uncle as he helped me read more challenging books. I felt so accomplished and proud! I carry that memory and that feeling with me to this day.

From Amber: I was the first person in my family to attend and graduate from college. Now I am about to earn my Masters Degree and I attribute it all to a mom who read to me and who encouraged my love of reading. Books open up the world to children and reading together with a trusted care-giver changes kids' lives. I am proud to support Reach Out & Read and I hope you will too!

>>>> Studies show that it works! When clinics give out books and advice to families coming in for check ups as part of Reach Out and Read, parents are more likely to read with their children and children's language skills are up to 6 months more advanced. We also know that Reach Out and Read increases the number of families coming in for check ups, and it even boosts clinic morale! This makes sense to me. Giving out books as part of a check up is our providers favorite part of the visit. When children come in, the first thing they ask is, "where is my book!"

Our program spotlight is Boone County Family Medicine. They serve 375 children annually for five years with more than 90% of the children and families they serve on Medicaid, Medicare, Tricare, or no insurance. The Boone Library and Children's Librarian Zach Stier works closely with Boone County Family Medicine, playing an important role in their success.

Your donation of $20, $30 or $50 will go a long way to helping us meet our goal for Reach Out & Read Iowa!
